Blue Moon Rising HIke

Join the WITT crew for a hike up to a special place on the Munger Trails to watch the historic Blue Moon on Aug 30th. This is a unique experience you won't want to miss! All abilities welcome!

Join the WITT crew for a hike up to a special place on the Munger Trails to watch the historic Blue Moon on Aug 30th. This is a unique experience you won't want to miss! All abilities welcome!

The Blue Moon will rise on the night of August 30, at 9:35 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory, and will both a "Blue Moon" and a "supermoon" – not only is it the second full moon in a month, but the moon is as close to Earth as it gets and thus appears slightly larger and brighter than any other time during the year.”

WHO: All Abilities

WHAT: "Super Blue Moon” Hike

(Contingency: We are headed into a long fair weather stretch so unless it ends up raining and clouded over, we’re a go.)

WHEN: Wednesday, August 30

7:00pm - 9:00pm

WHERE: Meet at the primary Munger Mtn. Trailhead. Approx. 12 miles south (takes about 20 mins.) on Fall Creek Road; trailhead with amble parking are right along the road at the top of the rise before you drop into Red Top Meadows housing area. Watch for the WITT banner on a truck tailgate. --If anyone from town would like to carpool from Albertson’s call Tracey: 307-690-1897--

We’ll walk up the trail, 700 ft. elevation gain, for about an hour at a leisurely pace, to Wally’s World bench where we’ll enjoy some snacks and a beverage, (offered to each person before we leave the trailhead/parking lot) while we chat about the “super blue moon”, and await moon rise at approx. 8:20pm. RT trek = 4 miles.

Sunset is 8:06pm, so plenty of daylight on the trek up but bring a headlamp for our descent. If we’re feeling jazzed we’ll make a loop out of the trek and come down Poison Creek to where we parked or if it’s getting late we can retrace our steps for a quick 30 mins. back to the trailhead.

WHY: Because ladies meet-ups are fun and we love to be outside!!
